Description
Enjoy a slice of The BEST Pumpkin Pie, made from scratch with pumpkin puree, warm spices, and a buttery crust. This dessert is simple to prepare and incredibly delicious, making it ideal for gatherings or a comforting family meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 ounces Crisco
- 1/8 cup cold water
- 15 ounces pumpkin puree
- 12 ounces evaporated milk
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and Crisco using your fingers until it resembles coarse meal.
- Make a well in the center of the mixture and add the cold water. Bring the flour mixture into the center and gently mix until all the flour is moistened, being careful not to overmix.
- Shape the dough into a flat disc, wrap it in plastic, and let it rest in the cooler for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- After resting, remove from the plastic and roll out on a lightly floured surface until it's about 1/4" thick, ensuring it's large enough to hang over the pie plate by about 1/2".
- Transfer the dough to a 9" pie plate, trimming the excess dough to leave a 1/2" overhang. Tuck the dough under to smooth the edges and crimp for decoration.
Notes
Ensure the butter or shortening is very cold to achieve a flaky crust.
You can add a sprinkle of nutmeg or allspice for extra warmth in flavor.
Always let the pie cool completely before slicing for the cleanest cuts.
