This festive Red, White and Blue Fruit Salad is a delightful mix of fresh fruits, perfect for summer barbecues or family gatherings. - 1 small seedless watermelon or 1/2 of a large watermelon
- 8 apples, optionally reserve 1 for making stars
- ½ yellow honeydew melon
- 4 cups strawberries, stems removed
- 2 cups raspberries
- 2 cups blueberries
- 1 cup red grapes
- 1 cup blackberries
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice per 1 cup of water for soaking apples
Instructions
- Wash all fruit thoroughly and let them dry.
- Cut the watermelon, apples, and honeydew melon into small squares. Halve or quarter the strawberries depending on size, or simply remove the tops.
- If not serving right away, soak the sliced apples in a mixture of lemon juice and water for at least 10 minutes. Use 1 tablespoon of lemon juice for every cup of water for soaking.
- Begin layering the fruits, starting with blueberries and blackberries for the top left of the flag. Alternate red and white fruits in a horizontal line until the dish is filled or all fruits are used.
- Use a star cookie cutter to cut one apple into stars and place them on top of the blue layer to finish the patriotic look.
Notes
This salad is best served fresh but can be prepared a few hours in advance. Store in the refrigerator until serving.
