Description

These Puppy Chow Brownies offer a delightful blend of rich chocolate and creamy peanut butter, topped with a crunchy puppy chow finish. They are simple to make and perfect for gatherings or as a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup dutch-processed cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder, optional
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups chopped chocolate, divided
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream, or whole milk
  • 3 cups puppy chow

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, lightly greased.
  2. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Mix in the eggs and vanilla extract until well blended. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, optional espresso powder, and salt until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chopped chocolate.
  3. Spread the brownie batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup chocolate on top. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick. Allow cooling completely in the pan.
  4. For the frosting, beat together peanut butter and softened butter in a stand mixer until smooth. Add powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, and heavy cream, beating until light and fluffy.
  5. Spread the peanut butter frosting over the cooled brownies, then sprinkle puppy chow on top, pressing gently so it sticks.
  6. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs for better mixing.
Do not overbake the brownies; they should be moist but not gooey.
For a richer flavor, use high-quality chocolate.
