Description

This cake baking guide offers a simple and delicious way to create a delightful dessert. With easy-to-follow steps and essential ingredients like butter, flour, and eggs, you’ll enjoy baking a moist cake perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cocoa powder (if making chocolate cake)
  • 2 tablespoons parchment paper
  • two 8– or 9-inch round pans or a 9×13 for sheet cakes
  • measuring cup with a spout for wet ingredients
  • flat-rim cups for dry ingredients
  • measuring spoons
  • stand mixer or hand mixer
  • silicone spatula
  • wire cooling rack

Instructions

  1. Prepare your pans by tracing and cutting parchment paper to fit, lining the pans, and coating them with butter and flour or cocoa powder, then tap out the excess.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
  3. Measure all ingredients accurately: use spouted cups for wet ingredients and leveled dry cups, with spoons for measuring as well. Remember to use large eggs if specified.
  4. Let butter and eggs reach room temperature about 30 minutes prior to baking.
  5. Cream the softened butter and sugar on medium speed for 3–5 minutes until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
  6. Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into wet, mixing until just combined, then gently fold with a silicone spatula.
  7. Distribute batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake in the center of the oven: 25–35 minutes for layers or 30–40 minutes for a 9×13 cake. Use a toothpick to check for doneness.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, frost and decorate as desired.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing.
For added flavor, consider adding a splash of milk if the batter seems too thick.
Always check the cake for doneness with a toothpick to avoid overbaking.
