Description

This homemade spaghetti sauce combines ground beef, tomatoes, and aromatic herbs, creating a flavorful blend ideal for a quick dinner or a comforting meal. With easy preparation and delicious results, it’s the perfect sauce for your pasta cravings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20 lean
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 cloves garlic grated or minced
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 parmesan cheese rind optional, but recommended
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and diced onion, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until browned, then drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, garlic, worcestershire sauce, and dried herbs; cook for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, adding water to the empty cans to collect remaining sauce before adding to the pot.
  5. Mix in sugar and balsamic vinegar, then add the parmesan cheese rind. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Once finished, stir in chopped basil and serve immediately or store for later use.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer longer if time allows.
This sauce can be frozen for up to 3 months, making it a great meal prep option.
Feel free to add more vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
