Description

This homemade apple cider syrup combines the irresistible flavors of apple, brown sugar, and spices. Perfect for drizzling over pancakes, waffles, or ice cream, it’s a simple and delightful addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups apple juice, or fresh apple cider
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a heavy bottomed saucepan, heat over medium heat and combine the apple juice, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, apple cider vinegar, and butter, whisking until mixed well.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally for about 2 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Allow the syrup to cool completely before serving it on pancakes, waffles, French toast, or ice cream.

Notes

Store any leftover syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
For a thicker syrup, allow it to simmer for a few extra minutes after boiling.
Adjust the spices according to your taste preference.
