Description

These Hawaiian Rolls are a delightful treat with their sweet flavor from pineapple juice and sugars. Simple to make, they are perfect for dinner or as a snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup pineapple juice, canned, room temperature
  • ½ cup whole milk, warmed to 100-110°f
  • 5 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 6 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 ¾ – 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix pineapple juice, warm milk, melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, and yeast until well combined.
  2. Add all-purpose flour and 3 cups of bread flour. Mix until a rough dough forms and then add salt. Gradually incorporate remaining flour until the dough is slightly sticky.
  3. Knead dough for 4-5 minutes with a stand mixer or 8-10 minutes by hand until smooth and elastic.
  4. Grease a large bowl, place the dough inside, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 ½ hours until doubled.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide into 15 pieces, and shape each piece into a ball by pinching the dough at the bottom.
  6. Arrange balls in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan, brush with eggwash, cover, and let rise again for about 1 hour until puffy.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 18-20 minutes until tops are golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven, brush with melted butter, and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure that the milk is warmed to the correct temperature to activate the yeast.
If the dough is too sticky, add more bread flour gradually until manageable.
