Description
This easy black bean dip is packed with flavor from black beans, garlic, and jalapeños. Perfect for pairing with chips, it’s a simple and delicious addition to any gathering or meal.

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium red onion, chopped small
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and chopped (or 4 oz canned diced jalapeños)
- 2 (15-ounce) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
- 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro plus more for serving
- vegan cheese, optional
- pickled red onions, optional
Instructions
- Warm the olive oil in a small pan over medium heat.
- Sauté the chopped red onion, garlic, and jalapeño peppers for 5-8 minutes, stirring frequently, then remove from heat.
- In a food processor, combine the drained and rinsed black beans, cooked onion mixture, cumin, salt, lime juice, and cilantro. Process until smooth or to your desired texture.
- Transfer the mixture to a serving dish and top with additional cilantro, vegan cheese, and pickled red onions, if desired.
- Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!
Notes
Feel free to adjust the heat by adding more or fewer jalapeños.
This dip can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge for the flavors to meld.
