Description

This Cherry Pie Filling boasts an irresistible flavor and simple preparation with fresh cherries, sugar, and almond extract. Ideal for creating delightful desserts, it’s the homemade touch every pie needs!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Cherries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup White granulated sugar
  • 1 TBSP Cornstarch
  • 1 TBSP Water
  • 1/4 tsp Almond extract

Instructions

  1. Ensure fresh cherries are pitted if using them. In a medium saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, water, and almond extract.
  2. Heat over medium until the cherry juice separates and the cherries soften. Mash the cherries to your desired consistency.
  3. Continue heating until the mixture thickens to about 1 1/2 cups. Transfer to a bowl and let cool completely, refrigerating speeds up the process.

Notes

For a thicker filling, increase the cornstarch slightly.
This filling can also be used as a topping for ice cream or pancakes.
Store any leftover filling in the refrigerator for up to a week.
