Description

Carmelitas are a delectable dessert combining chocolate chip cookie dough, gooey caramel, and rich chocolate chips. Perfect for satisfying sweet cravings, this easy recipe will delight and impress anyone looking for a quick and delicious homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 30 ounces chocolate chip cookie dough
  • 11 ounces caramels
  • ¼ cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Slice just over half of the cookie dough into 1/4" rounds and layer them in a single layer in a parchment-lined 9-inch square baking pan.
  3. Press the cookie dough into an even layer with your fingers.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  5. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unwrapped caramels and evaporated milk. Heat on high for 1 minute, then stir. Continue heating in 30-second intervals until the caramel is fully melted.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the slightly cooled cookie crust.
  7. Drizzle the melted caramel over the chocolate chips.
  8. Crumble the remaining cookie dough (less than half) over the caramel. It doesn't need to be even.
  9. Return the Carmelitas to the oven and bake for another 12-15 minutes, until they begin to turn golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  11. Remove from the refrigerator and let sit for 15 minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

For best results, let Carmelitas cool completely before slicing.
They can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
Feel free to mix in nuts or substitute the chocolate chips with your favorite type.
