- 6 granny smith apples, cut into 1/2" pieces
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Combine the diced apples and lemon juice in a bowl, stirring well to coat the apples. Sprinkle the flour and cinnamon on top and toss the apples until evenly coated, then transfer to a 9" pie plate.
- Drizzle approximately 1/2 cup of caramel sauce over the apple mixture and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix softened butter, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and oats until everything is well integrated, forming about 1/2" crumbles. Spread this oat mixture over the apples.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes in the preheated oven until the topping is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and garnish with additional caramel before serving.
Notes
Ensure the apples are firm for better texture after baking.
Feel free to substitute other apple varieties if preferred.
For an extra crispy topping, bake for an additional few minutes.
