- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 ½ teaspoons granulated garlic or garlic powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ to ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 racks pork baby back ribs (2.5 to 3 pounds total weight)
- ½ cup BBQ sauce, or as needed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F and position the oven rack in the center.
- Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil. In a small bowl, mix together the dry rub ingredients.
- Rinse the ribs under cool water, dry them with paper towels, and remove the membrane if present.
- On a large sheet of heavy-duty foil, place the ribs meaty side down and rub one-third of the seasoning mix onto the bony side. Flip the ribs and apply the remaining seasoning over the meaty side. Enclose the ribs in the foil and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 2 hours, or until the ribs are tender when pierced with a fork.
- After baking, switch the oven to BROIL. Carefully lift the foil packet from the baking sheet and open it. Transfer the ribs, meaty side down, back onto the foil-lined baking sheet. Coat the bony side with BBQ sauce, flip, and then generously baste the meaty side with sauce.
- Broil for 4 to 6 minutes until the sauce caramelizes.
- Remove from the oven and allow the ribs to rest for 5 minutes before slicing into individual ribs.
Notes
For added flavor, marinate the ribs in the dry rub overnight before cooking.
Feel free to adjust the cayenne pepper to control the heat level to your liking.
Using a good quality BBQ sauce enhances the flavor of the ribs.
