Ingredients
Scale
- 2.5 lbs chicken thighs boneless skinless
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- 3 tbsp avocado oil
- 1 cup homemade southern bbq sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix chicken thighs with brown sugar, kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, and avocado oil. Ensure the chicken is well coated and marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Take the marinated chicken out of the fridge 30 minutes before grilling to bring it to room temperature.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Place the chicken thighs on the grill and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for a few minutes on each side until charred and grill marks appear.
- Once nearly cooked, baste the chicken with BBQ sauce on both sides and move them to indirect heat to allow the sauce to absorb and finish cooking.
- Remove the chicken from the grill once the internal temperature reaches 175-190 degrees for dark meat or 165 degrees for white meat. Serve with additional BBQ sauce.
Notes
Marinating the chicken overnight enhances the flavor.
Use a meat thermometer to ensure proper cooking temperatures for safety.
Feel free to substitute the homemade BBQ sauce with your favorite store-bought version if needed.
