Description

This Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish is a delightful pastry featuring layers of rich cream cheese and sweet strawberry jam, wrapped in flaky puff pastry. Perfect for quick breakfasts or enjoying as a sweet treat, its ease of preparation makes it a favorite for everyone who loves homemade pastries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
  • ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
  • 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
  • 1 tbsp milk, any type works
  • 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together in a medium bowl until smooth, about 1 minute.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheets and lay them on the baking sheet, keeping the middle section intact.
  4. Cut 1-inch strips on both sides of the pastry sheet to create tassels, keeping them connected at the fold.
  5. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the center section of each pastry sheet.
  6. Mix the strawberry jam with orange or lemon zest and spread about ¼ cup of it on top of the cream cheese filling.
  7. Fold the top outer strips over each other, forming a braid, and repeat with all strips.
  8. Brush the top of the Danish with milk and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  9. Bake each pastry for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let them cool for 15 minutes before glazing.
  11. Make the optional glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to a thick but pourable consistency.
  12. Pour the glaze over the pastries, let it set, slice, and serve.

Notes

Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easy mixing.
Experiment with different jams to suit your taste.
Allow the pastries to cool slightly before adding the glaze for the best texture.
