Description
These Puff Pastry Egg Tarts are a delightful combination of crispy bacon, creamy cheese, and fluffy eggs, making them a fantastic choice for brunch or any gathering. Their easy preparation and mouthwatering flavor ensure they will be a hit.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of original bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
- 13 ounces puff pastry dough, thawed completely (not frozen)
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated from the block
- 1/4 cup green onion for serving, sliced thinly on a bias
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium low heat until crispy, then transfer it to a paper towel lined plate to drain.
- In a bowl, mix one egg with the water to create an egg wash. Use a fork or whisk to combine well.
- Line a full-size cookie sheet with parchment paper. Unroll the puff pastry and cut it into 8 equal rectangular pieces using a pizza cutter. Spread the puff pastry pieces apart on the cookie sheet. Use a paring knife to create a border around the inside of each pastry, then fork prick the inner space. Brush the tops of the tarts with egg wash and bake for 10 minutes.
- While the dough bakes, whisk together the remaining 3 eggs, milk, dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Once the puff pastry has baked, press the centers down gently with the back of a fork, leaving the edges puffy.
- Carefully pour the egg mixture into each tart, taking care not to overfill. Sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese and return to the oven to bake for another 10 minutes.
- Remove the tarts from the oven and sprinkle the bacon pieces and remaining cheese on top. Bake for an additional 5 minutes.
- Top with sliced green onions and serve with dijonnaise sauce if desired.
Notes
For best results, ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed before using.
Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for extra flavor.
The tarts are best enjoyed fresh, but can be reheated in the oven.
