Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large onions (or 4 medium onions)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 4 ounces cream cheese (half brick, softened)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Slice each onion in half and discard the ends and peel, then cut each half into thin strips.
- Place the sliced onions in the crockpot, drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and mix until coated. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
- After cooking, stir in the sour cream, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, and hot sauce. Mix until combined. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. For a thicker dip, drain some juices if desired.
- To keep warm, leave the dip in the slow cooker on the 'keep warm' setting. For a cold dip, transfer to a container and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
For a thicker dip, consider draining excess juices after cooking the onions.
You can adjust the level of hot sauce based on your spice preference.
This dip can be prepared a day in advance and served cold or reheated.
