Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 large egg yolks
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 10 ounces chocolate chips, milk or semi-sweet, your choice!
- flaked salt, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Heat a 12-inch oven-safe skillet (preferably cast iron) over low heat for 5 minutes. Melt the butter in it, then mix in the sugars with a wooden spoon. Turn off the heat or remove the skillet from the burner.
- Whisk the egg and egg yolks together in a bowl and promptly add to the skillet, mixing to avoid cooking the eggs. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Incorporate the dry ingredients until just combined; this will take a bit of time as the mixture will be thick. Clean the skillet sides if necessary with a damp paper towel.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, then bake for 20 to 25 minutes until mostly set in the center. Sprinkle with flaked sea salt.
- Serve warm, ideally topped with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Ensure the skillet is cast iron for the best heat distribution.
Adjust the baking time to avoid overcooking; the center should remain slightly soft.
