- 1 1/2 ounces añejo tequila
- 1 1/2 ounces homemade sweet and sour mix
- 3/4 ounce orange liqueur (cointreau or triple sec)
- 2 cups water (for sweet and sour mix)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for sweet and sour mix)
- 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 5 – 7 small limes)
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 medium lemons)
Instructions
- Simmer water and sugar in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves to create sugar syrup, then allow it to cool.
- Incorporate fresh lime and lemon juice into the cooled syrup to prepare the sweet and sour mix.
- Prepare the glass rim by rubbing with lime and dipping in kosher salt, then fill the glass with ice.
- In a shaker, combine tequila, sweet and sour mix, and orange liqueur with ice, shaking until chilled.
- Strain the mixture into the glass over the ice and adorn with a lime wedge.
Notes
Adjust the sweetness of the mix by varying the amount of sugar to taste.
For an extra twist, consider adding a splash of fruit puree to the drink.
Garnish with a salt or sugar rim based on your preference for a traditional or sweet touch.
